THE PROTECT ACT OF 2008
Child Exploitation in America:
- Child pornography includes the photos and videos of children as they are sexually abused, raped and tortured.
- Over one-million internet child pornographers have been recorded by law enforcement disseminating these images of child victims.
- Due to a lack of governmental funding, the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Forces (ICAC) will investigate less than 2% of these cases.
- Historically, 1/3 of child pornography arrests have led to the identification of the an actual child victi\m and resulted in a 96% conviction rate.
The Protect Act of 2008:
- Provides funding for desperately needed resources to combat online child exploitation
- Funds the specialized training of agents as well as the necessary equipment and technology to create dedicated forensic crime labs
Alica's Law:
- A complimentary state law named after SPC child victim Alicia. she was lured, abducted and held captive by an internet predator, and is one of the less than 2% rescued by ICAC task forces.
*ICAC task forces are federal, state and local law enforcement and prosecutors working together to combat online child exploitation.
